THE LAUNCH OF PARALYMPIC FIREBALL EXTREME CHALLENGE™: A MILESTONE IN INCLUSIVE SPORTS

July 10th 2024, Washington D.C.

The International FXC Federation (IFF) and the International FXC Organization (IFO) have proudly launched the Paralympic Fireball Extreme Challenge™ (Paralympic FXC), marking a significant milestone in the evolution of this dynamic, inclusive, and coed team sport.

The Motivation Behind Paralympic FXC

This development is not merely a PR stunt. The decision to create a Paralympic version of FXC is rooted in the same values that have always inspired the sport: inclusion and unity. It was inspired by the Olympic spirit, encapsulated in the ideals of determination, equality, inspiration, and courage, which form the foundation upon which Paralympic FXC is built.

  • Determination: Paralympic athletes epitomize the drive to push physical limits. The sport of FXC demands high-speed action and constant changes in direction, making the lightweight and maneuverable wheelchairs used in Paralympic basketball an ideal choice for Paralympic FXC. This choice ensures that the athletes can perform at their best while maintaining safety and agility.

  • Inspiration: The personal stories and accomplishments of Paralympic athletes serve as powerful motivators. By showcasing their resilience and achievements, Paralympic FXC aims to inspire others to apply this spirit to their own lives, fostering a culture of perseverance and excellence.

  • Equality: Paralympic sports break down social barriers and combat discrimination against individuals with impairments. By developing Paralympic FXC, the IFF and IFO are actively promoting equality and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of their physical abilities.

The Development Journey

The development of Paralympic FXC began in 2022 and took place in the United States, spearheaded by IFF’s CEO and Co-Founder Max Bartoli, IFO President Fabiola Lopez Bartoli and FXC partner and former US FXC National Team member, Giorgetta Keuter. Tryouts were conducted in both the Washington DC, United States and Queretaro, Mexico, with invaluable support from the Queretaro FXC Delegate, Imelda Montelongo Vazquez. The involvement of the members of the Club del Deporte Adaptador Municipal de Queretaro and the Wheel Chair Basketball team Corregidores led by Aurelia Diaz Mendoza, also played a crucial role in the development process.

This collaborative effort has ensured that Paralympic FXC is not only a reality but also a well-supported and thoroughly tested discipline. The inclusion of Paralympic FXC in upcoming competitions and the 2025 FXC World Cup underscores its importance and the commitment of the IFF and IFO to this new venture.

The Importance of Inclusion in Sports

The launch of Paralympic FXC is a testament to the importance of including everyone in sports. People with disabilities have the right to participate in adaptive sports and recreational activities at all levels, whether competitively or for recreation. Adaptive sports have played a crucial role in the lives of disabled athletes, providing them with opportunities to compete alongside their peers and showcase their skills on an international platform.

The IFF and IFO, though still in their early stages, are focused on these critical aspects of sports and human development. They recognize that sports can be a powerful agent for change, promoting social inclusion and breaking down barriers. By providing platforms for disabled athletes to compete and excel, they are championing the rights of individuals with disabilities and fostering a more inclusive society.

A Future of Inclusivity and Excellence

The introduction of Paralympic FXC is a significant achievement for the IFF and IFO. It represents their commitment to inclusivity and the broader goals of the Olympic spirit. As Paralympic FXC prepares to take its place in upcoming competitions, including the 2025 FXC World Cup, it serves as a reminder that sports are for everyone. This new development will undoubtedly inspire and empower athletes with disabilities, providing them with the recognition and opportunities they deserve.

In conclusion, the launch of Paralympic FXC by the International FXC Federation and the International FXC Organization is a bold step towards a more inclusive sporting world. By adhering to the principles of determination, equality, inspiration, and courage, Paralympic FXC is set to make a profound impact on the lives of athletes with disabilities and the global sports community.

The journey of Paralympic FXC has just begun, and its future promises to be as dynamic and inspiring as the athletes who will compete in it.
